Why Videos are Great for Sharing Tips & Tricks with Customers

Videos are great for sharing tips and tricks with your customers because the videos help put a “face” to your company, while at the same time, helping your customers to learn something new. In this week’s video for Edutige Microphones, I share a trick to help people film themselves when making videos with an iPhone and using the back camera. It’s a simple trick but it’s not something people are likely to figure out on their own.

As I’ve mentioned before, videos help build trust and a relationship with your customers in a far more powerful way than words on a screen can.

When you provide value to your customers by teaching them tips and tricks, you can build a greater sense of trust with your customers. They’re not thinking that you’re just interested in selling them something.

People are skeptical, so when you can genuinely help them you break through that wall of skepticism and establish your company as the good guys.

Finally, your customers (and potential customers) see you as the expert in that particular topic area and you become the go to source for information, help and eventually, as the only company they want to do business with. Pretty cool, I’d say.

So add video marketing to your blogging/content and focus on how you can help your customers beyond just thinking about getting a sale. It’s a good thing.

One of the things I love about video marketing is how powerful it is in helping to win over customers. If a customer or prospect is on the fence about working with you, or they’ve had a bad experience with a competitor, or they have little experience with the products or services you offer, or the industry that you’re in, videos can bridge the gap between you and those people. Videos can literally win over customers.

How Video Content Marketing Empowers Customers

One of the most powerful things about video is the ability to empower people through learning and inspiring action. I know that personally, I’ve been influenced and have learned from many people and the invaluable content they have created and shared through video. A very simple way to use video marketing to empower your customers is to show them better ways to use the tools you provide. Your tool may be a product or a service that your customers only use at a basic level. And that may be more than enough.

But if you can open their eyes to other possibilities, you empower those people to do more, to be better, to enjoy your product or service even more. Powerful stuff.

This week’s video for Edutige is a simple way to empower our customers. Many people use our microphones for recording audio, such as bird songs, but may not know other audio recording apps beyond the iPhone’s built in Voice Memos app.

So to help our customers get better quality audio, the video shows them a comparison between the iOS Voice Memos app and a favourite of mine, Twisted Wave.

Edutige Video Marketing: Simple Product Comparison Videos

Whenever you have a number of products that your customers have to choose between, it’s always a good idea to create a video to demonstrate the differences. There are a number of very good reasons for doing so, such as:

  1. People hate buying the wrong thing, and often have a hard time finding accurate or relevant information. A comparison video educates them to make the right purchase.
  2. Gives a good experience to your customers, which builds trust in your company. This can help you stand out amongst your competitors and provides a story for your customers to tell others.
  3. Reduces the number of questions and time spent answering questions. Videos that inform your customers empowers them. They can now ask intelligent questions, or be able to make a buying decision in less time.

So think about how you can create some simple product comparison videos to help your customers become better customers. Check out the video to see an example of how you could make a product comparison video.

The Canon EOS M is an awesome camera. Don’t let people tell you it’s not, especially for video. I have had one for a couple of years and I love it. It made it easy to replace my Canon DSLR. One great thing is that the EOS M has an external microphone jack, so in this video, you’ll see three options for microphones and what each is good for.

Video Content Marketing for Edutige - Using Follow Up Videos

Last week after posting a video about how to properly put on a lavalier microphone, I was asked why I didn’t show putting the microphone on a t-shirt when I had mentioned it in the video. This is a great example of why I love video marketing, or social media in general, because you get to connect directly with your target audience and interact with them immediately. So after reading that particular comment about the t-shirt thing, I told the person that I would make a follow up video to answer their question. And so I did, of course.

The main takeaway is not being afraid to engage with your audience and to use video as a tool to form deeper connections with people.

Even if the person doesn’t buy from us, it’s fine. I’m happy to know we’ve planted a seed of good experience is their mind, which all too often doesn’t happen when consumers engage with brands.

How to Put a Lavalier Microphone on a T-Shirt

Last week I taught you how to properly put on a lavalier microphone and this week you’ll learn how to put a lavalier mic on a t-shirt. Thanks to Nyx Goldstone for the suggestion!

I also got rid of the opening introduction where my kid is swinging around just to get to the video a little quicker. I’m guessing most people tried to fast forward past that part, anyway :)

So in addition to learning how to put a lavalier microphone on a t-shirt, I’ve also included how to hide a lavalier microphone under your clothing.

This little trick is fairly well-known but in case you haven’t seen it, this is for you.

Sometimes we don’t want the lav mic to be seen so this is pretty useful to know how to hide the microphone.

Video Content Marketing for Edutige - Basic How to Videos

How to videos are always a great way to create video marketing content. But those how to videos don’t always have to be specific to your product. For example, in the following video for Edutige, I wanted to teach people how to do something that I see a lot of people doing incorrectly. A lot of people improperly put on a lavalier microphone. Is it a big deal? Kind of.

The big reason is that it looks unprofessional and not only that, but it’s a clear sign of amateur video. I know this is important to our customers because the whole point in using an external lapel mic is to improve production value.

I often hear people saying they want their videos to look and sound more professional. And while a lavalier microphone will do that, it’s in the small details, such as putting on the mic properly, that are that last little step towards a more professional, polished video.

So that’s why a little how to video such as this can help customers, even if the video is not specifically about a product or service you are offering. It’s a great way to add value and build trust with your target audience.

Video Content Marketing for Edutige: How a Video Series Helps Customers

One way to create video content is by producing a series of videos about a particular topic. In this case, I’ve made three videos covering different microphones that can be connected to an iPhone using the Apple Lightning to headphone adapter cable. The purpose was to reassure people that their microphones can work with the iPhone 7’s Lightning port; in other words, it was a way to reduce the fear and anxiety of the unknown. Video content marketing is first and foremost about educating your customers or clients, helping them get over any fears or apprehensions they may have about doing business with you, or seeking you out to help them. Yes, videos can be used to build your brand but that’s only scratching the surface because those videos don’t always demonstrate the real value your business provides. At least that’s the way I see it.

But what if you have an iPhone 7 and need to use the Lightning to headphone adapter? Will you still be able to use an external microphone like the EIM-001? Well, yes, you can. And it works really well.

The only issue I find with the Lightning to headphone adapter cable when using a microphone like the EIM-001, is that the cable is flopping around. This wasn’t an issue with previous generation iPhones because we could plug the external microphone directly into the iPhone headphone jack.

Anyway, it is what it is, right? If you want to connect an external microphone to an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, then you need to use the Lightning to headphone adapter cable. The great thing is that it works perfectly with our Edutige microphones.

Video Marketing for Edutige: Use Follow Up Content to Keep People Engaged

Last week I posted a video showing how to connect an external microphone to an iPhone using the Apple Lightning to headphone adapter cable. This week, it’s a follow up to that video to provide more information about the different types of microphones customers can use with their iPhone 7 and the Apple Lightning to headphone adapter cable. I know that people aren’t overly please with having to use dongles with their iPhone 7 but until there’s a better solution, it’s a good idea to show people that they can still find accessories, such as external microphones, for their iPhone.

This extra content keeps customers engaged with your company and gives people more reason to stay on your website, which is always important.

In this video you’ll hear the Edutige EIM-003 omnidirectional external microphone with an ESL-006 lavalier adapter cable connected to an iPhone 6 using the Apple Lightning to headphone adapter cable that comes with the iPhone 7. In last week’s video, I tested the EIM-008 unidirectional microphone and as you may notice, I filmed both videos on the same day, back-to-back. The thing I want to point out is how in this video, the EIM-003 picks up a bit of the rain hitting the windows. But when you listen to the EIM-008 video, you don’t notice the rain. That’s the difference between the omnidirectional microphones we have and the unidirectional ones.

A big part of content marketing is helping your customers discover solutions to problems or issues they are having. With the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, the pain point for customers is not being able to connect an external microphone in order to make videos, to vlog or to record audio for things such as bird watching. And even though Apple released a Lightning port to 3.5mm headphone adapter, it was relatively unknown as to whether or not the adapter would work with external microphones. So to help, I put together a video demonstrating how to connect an Edutige external microphone to an iPhone using the new Apple Lightning to 3.5mm adapter cable. The cable works perfectly and offers a simple solution for Edutige customers so they don’t have to worry that their microphones won’t work with the iPhone 7.

This is the power of video content marketing. You can quickly demonstrate a solution to an immediate problem that your customers have, which makes them happy and earns your company trust and credibility.

If you have an iPhone 7 and you want to connect an external microphone, your only choice is to use the Apple Lighting to 3.5mm adapter dongle thingy. So I wanted to find out if our Edutige external microphones are compatible with the Apple Lighting to 3.5mm dongle. Long story short… YEP, all of the EIM series Edutige external microphones work flawlessly with the Lightning port on either the iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s or iPhone 5.

The video shows a test of an EIM-008 external microphone connected to an iPhone 6 via the Lightning port, but other people have tested the Edutige microphones with the iPhone 7 and other iPhones with the Lightning port and everything works great.

One thing to be aware of is to connect the microphone to the Lightning to 3.5mm dongle and then connect the dongle to the iPhone’s Lightning port. If you don’t, the iPhone will use the built in microphone instead of the external microphone. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

The cool thing is that if you are vlogging, making videos for your business or recording audio with your iPhone 7, you can now connect a 3.5mm external microphone using the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm adapter. All is good.

When showing how your product or service helps your customers, a simple before and after comparison can often be the most effective method to do so. And video is the perfect medium for a before and after because customers can clearly see, and in this case, hear, the difference.
